How to Let Purpose and Passion Find You
A lot of people get confused with the concepts of living your passion versus your purpose. There are those who substitute their purpose for their passion and over time, this misconception messes with their lives and their careers.
We all want to live passionately and with purpose, but it is not something we pursue, it is something that finds us instead.
This is very well illustrated in the recent episode of the Rant and Grow podcast with Lauren Krasnodembski.
Most people get through their lives doing the usual: focusing on work, on work-life balance, having kids, taking care of them, paying the bills, running the family, making a home, building wealth, planning for retirement, etc.
While doing that, many often feel a sense of unfulfillment and exhaustion from their life, like something could or should have been better.
After some time, that realization becomes uncomfortable to live with and at some point, people start questioning what their passion is and what it is that they want to be doing with the rest of their lives.
Develop Self-Awareness
There are so many people who are not aware of their purpose in life and don’t really know what they want to do. This is mostly because they are not aware of the kind of people, they themselves are.
Knowing yourself is the first thing that can bring you a lot closer to your passions and eventually, your purpose in life.
“I discovered that I didn’t know myself as well as I thought I knew myself…” says Lauren on her episode of the Rant & Grow podcast. Being self-aware and really diving into what feels good to you at any given moment is the key to finding what your passion is.
“Self-awareness is the key to becoming the best version of yourself. It is how you discover what you are made of and for.”
Become an Observer
To activate truly knowing yourself, you must become an observer of who you are. You must reflect upon your life and figure out what gets you anxious, what makes you happy, what makes you want to jump out of your skin and what calms you at night.
By noticing everything that you do and everything that makes you feel differently, you can come closer to what truly makes you fulfilled in life daily. This is important because if your passions only make you happy some of the time, they are not really your passions.
Start with the basics and turn inward. In this inward self-discovery process, you start to observe who you are, and what makes you tick. One of the best ways to do this, is to people watch yourself. Journal your behaviours, as if you were investigating someone else’s life. Be a student of your own life.
Remove the Roadblocks
There are a lot of roadblocks inside most people’s minds that stop them from achieving their true state of happiness in life. For most people, it is the fear of judgement from the community that they are a part of.
What stops them from following their passions is a simple fear that other people might not approve of their choices, wants or desires. That’s completely natural. However, to really be happy and discover what you want to do in terms of your passions, you must free yourself of all roadblocks like these.
When you have a job, you may be fulfilling your purpose without knowing it. Despite your full-time job, if you make time for things that you really enjoy during the day, you can truly be happy.
Also, if your job enables you to pursue the things that really give you a sense of fulfilment, then it becomes strategic in fulfilling your purpose. The job itself does not need to align with your passions or purpose. It can be a means to enabling you.
“When you’re passionate about something, you are vibrationally operating at a higher level than if you were doing something you don’t really care about or that you think you should be doing, or you’re trying to please somebody else.”
This is how you can let purpose and passion find you. Become a student of what makes you vibrate at a higher frequency and in that self-awareness, replicate what you learn proactively. Think of it as step into what already vibrates well for you and repeating it.
